What Does It Cost to Sell at Auction? Buyer’s Premium Explained

One of the first questions sellers ask me is, “What does this cost me?” Here’s how it works.

The short version

At auction, sellers pay no commission. The commission is paid by the buyer through what’s called the buyer’s premium. The seller handles standard closing costs.

What is a buyer’s premium?

A buyer’s premium is an amount added to the winning bid that the buyer pays. It’s part of how the sale is paid for, and buyers know about it before they bid.

What about agents and listings?

If you already have a listing agent, Auction Ohio’s Agent Partner Program lets the agent keep their full commission at closing, with no cut and no referral split, while sellers still pay no commission. If you’re an agent, see the Agent Partners page.
